As far back as I can remember and before I could even spell the word “Veterinarian” I knew that this was the career path for me. As the proof lies in my childhood journal from kindergarten in which I indicated, “when I grow up, I want to be a vegetarian so I can take care of animals!” With much family support to encourage my desire to become a veterinarian, my mother and brother assisted me in my numerous animal adventures. It started out small, as it always does, with pocket pets and fluffy little bunnies. My passion to help and “doctor” animals soon took off out of control with numerous adoptions of any and all species that needed a loving home. Soon the house was full of cats, dogs, birds, lizards, snakes and even a caiman alligator. My mom drew the line when I asked if we could adopt a fainting goat. Like I said, slightly out of control! But none the less, with love and encouragement from a very supportive family I soon found myself graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science, Majoring in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry. This was really just the foundation of a journey that was about to launch for greatness. After graduation, I headed overseas to St. Kitts and immersed myself in culture in and wildlife. With many great stories of close encounters with wildlife; including hiking active volcanoes, rehabbing Green Vervet Monkeys, assisting in the sea turtle monitoring research program, and not to forget to mention encounters with centipedes that you only thought existed in 1980’s horror films. However, my ultimate story coming home was telling all that I had achieved my childhood goal, obtaining my Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine. I graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts in 2008. Once I returned home, I hit the ground running eager to put my skills to the test. I have been practicing veterinary medicine in friendly Bastrop Texas for the past 6 years. It has been a blessing to be able to go to work every day with such a fulfilling job. Not only do I get to help improve the quality of life of animals but I get an opportunity to enrich the bond between the pets and their owners. I could not have asked for a better profession. In the last five years I have not only been growing in my profession but my husband, Jason, and I have grown a family of 3. Jackson (5), Samuel (4), and Abigail (2) have been such a blessing to us and definitely keep us on our toes! We have one dog, Chocolate (7), our much-loved “tripod” that was of course a rescue! The Hansen family has chosen to spread its wings in Pflugerville, Texas…somewhere between a Rock and a Weird place. In my move to Pflugerville, I commit to provide compassionate care for each and every pet and solidify the animal human bond. I look forward to bringing enthusiasm, professionalism and talent to the ever emerging city of Pflugerville.
Lisa Hansen, DVM
Anne Romeo, DVM
Welcome to our new veterinarian, Dr. Anne Romeo.
Dr. Romeo, is from San Antonio and graduated from Texas A&M University with her degree in Veterinary Medicine in 2015. Her career in veterinary medicine started in high school when she started working as a veterinary technician. While continuing to work in the veterinary field, she graduated from Texas State University with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Animal Science. Her love for science and research led her to attend the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where she researched the role of stem cells in pediatric cancer. Initially planning to continue in science and get her PhD, Dr. Romeo realized how much she missed veterinary medicine and applied to veterinary college. She graduated from the University of Texas with a Master’s degree in Cell and Structural Biology and subsequently enrolled in the DVM program at Texas A&M University.
During her time at A&M, Dr. Romeo was an active member in the Student Chapter of the American Association of Feline Practitioners and studiously learned all she could about every facet of feline medicine. Furthering her interest in feline medicine, she was on a One Health interdisciplinary research committee, investigating the overarching health effects of feline welfare and how to increase societal regard for feline ownership. Dr. Romeo has spent the last two years working at a feline only practice in San Antonio and has a special interest in feline medicine.
Dr. Romeo enjoys an active lifestyle by participating in spinning classes. When not at the gym, she can be found at home spending time with her husband, Blair, and their small menagerie of pets.
After reaching her childhood goal of becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Romeo is
delighted to be joining the Pfennig Lane Animal Hospital team and she
looks forward to providing the best care to your furry four-legged friends.
Karesa Browder, Office Manager
Hello, my name is Karesa; I am the Practice Manager here at Pfennig Lane Animal Hospital. Historically I always knew that I wanted to engage in the profession of veterinary medicine. I grew up on a cattle ranch in McDade, Texas working mostly with cattle but expanded my knowledge to include horses and small animals. I have worked in the small animal field since 2006. I started as a veterinary assistant and soon realized how great my passion for the profession was. I expanded my knowledge and enrolled into veterinary technician school. Soon there after I found myself as the lead surgery technician. My extensive training and leadership skills naturally took me to places in the field that I would not have fathomed as a youngster. I have truly enjoyed the roll of office management in which I can cohesively utilize my skill sets and love for animals to support the bond between owners and their beloved pets through Pfennig Lane Animal Hospital. Currently I am striving to become a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager. I would like to mention that I did not make this journey on my own. Nathan, my husband, has been very supportive and
encouraging as I have traveled the course of veterinary medicine. My husband and I have recently become parents in 2014, beyond the life experiences of what our furbabies have given us. We are the very proud parents of Allison Kate, our 3 year old daughter. She is constantly bringing a smile to our face. We also have a Shih Tzu named Cookie and an Australian Shephard named Layla. In my free time, I love horse back riding, reading, painting, taking photos of Ally (my daughter), and taking Caribbean cruises with my family.

Stephanie, Veterinary Technician
My name is Stephanie and my adventure of veterinary medicine began in 2009. I first got a taste of veterinary medicine when I was grooming for a veterinary hospital. I quickly realized that I wanted to know more about the job of a Veterinary Technician. Hungry for the education, I put myself through the Austin Community College Veterinary Assistant program. During my time in school I was able to acquire and practice many skill sets that a Veterinary Technician needs to succeed within the field of veterinary medicine. I did many hours of volunteer work and enjoyed the ability to share my skills and give back through shelter medicine. Shortly after finishing the program, I was hired by Dr. Lisa Hansen as a Veterinary Technician in 2014. I have watched the practice grow and flourish and feel lucky to have found such an amazing doctor to work for.
My goals are to further my education and become a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) and potentially specialize in the fields of emergency medicine and surgery. I also am passionate about pathology and disease control.
In 2016 I was blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Christopher, who is my motivation for all that I do in my life. We also have a seven year old Himalayan cat named Harley and a tortoise.

I decided to move to Texas to pursue my dreams of working with animals, and Pfennig Lane Animal Hospital is making that dream come true! I was raised on the Big Island of Hawaii where my love for animals began, being privileged enough to swim with dolphins in Waikoloa and ride horseback in Waimea. I moved to southern California for college, where I took many biology, chemistry, and mathematics courses. With enormous support from my family, I was encouraged to pursue a career as a Veterinary Technician, and at 20 years old, I have learned more about veterinary medicine than I thought possible, all thanks to Dr. Lisa Hansen. I look forward to many more years of learning and caring for animals. My family includes my amazing parents (Dwight, Sandy), my two younger sisters (Sarah, Lily), my two dogs (Bear, Kira), my three cats (Snickers, Luna, Pookie), my bird Lola, and my crested gecko Beans.

I moved to Texas in 2014, after living in Colorado for 6 years and needing a little bit of a warm up! I always knew I wanted to work with animals, beginning of 5 years of age. I started my work career in the customer service industry. I worked in fields ranging from restaurants to retirement homes. By joining the team at Pfennig Lane Animal Hospital, I have been able to accomplish my goal of working with animals. As an added bonus, my pets LOVE their new doctors. I have 3 cats- Punkin, Mister Pickles, and Athena; and 3 dogs- Paxton, Mia and Lola. My next next goal is to become a licensed veterinary technician so I can continue to master the skill of helping those that can not help themselves. Once licensed, I then plan to continue to grow with in the industry and obtain specialty licensing in dental health care. In planning to expand my education and skill sets in canine and feline dentistry will allow for me to educate pet parents on the importance of oral health as it can lead to many other health issues. I believe that I can make a difference for your pets so that they will have a long lasting beautiful and healthy smile! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends because the mean the world to me. I am excited to continue growing in the field of Veterinary Medicine and fulfill my childhood dreams!
